Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has implemented an extra tube in place of the FET in the ODS circuit?
My Bassman Ten chassis has v1 and v2 positioned less than an inch apart and was thinking of how to make it work without covering up the hole.
Thanks for the time fellas!

Re: Tube instead of FET?
I haven't tried it, but one idea I've had was to do a Tube Driver circuit in front of the amp, which I guess could replace the FET circuit. Only problem is all of the additional knobs...
Here's the schem:

The Tube Driver would push the amp quite hard. Don't think you would be getting a traditional D tone there.

Sounds cool, but I was thinking of something like a simple plate driven circuit, something to goose the sound a bit like the FET without adding too much extra overdrive or distortion.

I've thought about paralleling another tube with the OD tube.
It would be cool to have three channels, clean, rhythm and lead.
Use the added gain from the tube to boost the lead channel.
It would have a gain or volume control for the amount of boost.
Have it on a relay and foot switch so when you want to step up the volume a bit for a solo you would have it.
The PAB to me just doesn't give me that type of boost or tone.

Hmmm, I was just thinking about the parallel tube idea, except I was thinking paralleling v1. Either way, be interesting to try. Thanks for the idea Structo.

Re: Tube instead of FET?
The FET as everyone knows was for acoustic guitars. You could use a cathode follower in its place connected to a gain stage.WhopperPlate wrote:Hello everyone,

I like the suggestions and paralleling tubes. The sound will be more warm, more like a large 6 volt preamp tube.
Best Regards,
Steve
