Single Ended D'Lite

Post by krzychusss »

Hello.

It's my first post on this forum, so I will introduce myself:
My name is Krzysiek and I'm from Poland.

So, here's what I've got for you.
I've decided to build an practice, bedroom amp - single ended D'Lite, cuz I love Dumble sound.
Schematic attached.

My question is - is it possible to sound like ODS with SE output stage?
Custom made, handwired power transformer gives me about 230V with no load - how do you think, is it enough for ODS preamp?

Sorry for my poor english - I'm still learning, but it's pretty hard, when you have nobody to talk with ;)

Regards,
Krzysiek

Krzychusss,

Your English is excellent and I'm always amazed how everyone else can speak English in addition to their own native languages.

As for making an ODS amp with a SE output stage, check out this thread:
http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0

You can be the judge if you like the SE output, but I think everyone thought Mat's amp sounded very good. 10thTX and DaGeezer have also done a lot of work on Dumble variants using a simplified 5E3 tone/volume stack to replace the Skyliner.

Here is the schematic for Mat's SE EL84 amp for comparison with your design:
http://ampgarage.com/forum/files/mts_mini_hrm_190.pdf

Although I cannot speak from experience with the Dumble amps, much of the magic comes from the preamp and overdrive stages and Mat's and 10thTX's amps show that it is possible to capture the essence of the Dumble sound with different output stages.

Good luck with your project.

DaGeezer tried building Mat's mini-HRM with 5881's but it was unsuccessful attempting this with 5881's,6V6's or 6L6's. The EL84 seems to be a good match for Mat's amp.

And if you have Jschem or ExpressSCH, there is an editable schematic and layout for Mat's mini-HRM EL84 here:

Over at EL34world.com, LooseChange built a really nice little desktop "tweaked D'lite" single-ended D'lite clone.

Also, check out his cool theme of desktop amps.
Jubilee SE, and blackface Champ builds.

Ha! Been playing the amp with a ES339. Got a new meaning for tone and responsiveness.
