I got pulled over a while back in a small NH town with over-zealous law enforcement. So I was kinda surprised because I was going the speed limit and was in my lane. Anyway, the cop was actually quite pleasant, almost apologetic, and explained that my license plate bulb was out and that was something that would get your inspection failed, etc. Then he goes "and normally we wouldn't pull somebody over for that but I've got a new officer riding with me and I wanted to give him practice writing the citation." So he goes back, and the kid rookie returns with a warning and somewhat awkwardly explains that it's just a warning, blah blah blah, get it fixed.

Still, I got stopped for practice?? Seriously?!

Last Tuesday I crashed my truck on I-94 ice patch $7,300 worth of damage and Insurance did not total it.

When the Hiway Patrolman got there he was helling at me through his PA to move the truck off the freeway. Then he got pissed threw his mike on the seat flew out of the patrol car and yelling at me to move the truck off the freeway.

Not once did he say are you and your son okay (which we are) he was just flipping mad that I didn't jump and do cartwheels at his command. Those that know me know I don't intimidate easily or jump at punk cops yelling at me.

The weird thing he wanted my truck moved out of the lane but he keep his patrol car in that same lane after I struggled to get my truck moved. So why was it necessary? Dumb shit cops.

Oh and I served as a cop for 10 years in North Dakota and never ever treated people like that. Hated domestic disputes!

Wow, glad you are OK Mark.

There seems to be two different kinds of cops.

One that is genuinely committed to the job and the public's safety.

And the other that is full of himself and is on a power trip to lord over people with his authority.

I was with my mother years ago when we hit a guy running a red light.
Mom was driving and without warning we hit this guys car broadside.
We always thought you were supposed to leave the cars where they stopped so if there is an investigation they can do their measuring.

Wrong!
A motorcycle cop pulls up and starts screaming at us to move the cars out of the intersection.
Mom's Honda was still drivable but the older car we hit had the rear fender pushed against the wheel and tire.
This cop was the power tripper yelling at people marching around like a little Hitler.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

A lot of cops like you to move your car so they don't have to do a traffic accident investigation.

Once you move them their response is "You moved the vehicles so I don't know what happened."

Okay, I have to share this.

My office is on the third floor of a building with a parking spaces underneath the building. It's a busy intersection half way between two traffic lights. Underneath there's a spot prefect for a traffic cop to wait which there have been doing 1-2 days a week all summer and now with weather permitting. I have a full view of everything that happens on the street.

But it's not a patrol car that waits or a cop on a motorcycle................ it's a bike cop. As in pedals and ten speeds. The bike has, I kid you not, flashing red and blue LEDs and a little siren mounted on the handlebars. The cop is very aggressive, shoots out and weaves in and out of traffic to nail people mostly for seat belt and cell phones. He's nearly caused two major accidents that I've seen.

The look on peoples faces as they get pulled over by the bike cop was funny for a while. There's no criminal pride in getting busted by a bike cop. Mostly people just look at him with this look of "you're kidding me, a bike cop" on thier faces. After a while it stopped being funny, the cop is a Pr*ck, my patients started to complain, the dentist downstairs and his patients started to complain, I got a ticket (cell phone with both ear pieces in, apparently you are only allowed one), the landlord is a puss and we are making a complaint to city hall.

My town needs money......................... they just expanded the bike cop program to ten officers.

LOL!

My friend was pulled over DUI by a mounted city cop. He refused to speak to the cop directly, telling the horse to relay messages.

Yeah. He had a few months in one of those stop drinking places. Great story too!

Now THAT'S funny! But not worth doing unless someone is taping....

Mounted police? That's almost as bad as my buddy getting "pulled over" while riding his bike and getting a....I don't know what. Cycling While Intoxicated? Pedaling Under the Influence? Whatever it was, he got it. State Farm promptly dropped his Schwinn policy.

Our local Detroit Mounted Unit had to shutter the facility that I lived near. They claimed budget restraints was the culprit, but I think the coppers were just afraid of their horses getting stolen for food. They may as well be riding cows.

Yes! I got pulled over for the same thing! AND the a**hole made me take my contacts out to prove that I was wearing my corrective lenses (our licenses indicate if a driver needs glasses/contacts).

This is the same police force (Plymouth, MI) that left me stranded in a huge snowstorm after midnight. Cop saw my car with blinking hazards and me walking with a gas can. He had the nerve to ask me "What're you doing?" and informed me that it was illegal to park my car on the side of that particular (and desolate) road. I guess I should be thankful that he at least gave me directions to the nearest gas station before he sped off. It was only 1 1/2 miles. In the snow. And mostly uphill. Really.

The deputy sheriff's vehicles can pump gas into your vehicle from theirs through a special hose and value right under the hood of the cruiser. 8)
