Just finished a 183-type build so I thought I’d show some voltages n’ pics. Big shout out to Billy Yates of Venice Amplifier Company who helped me get it started. Everything would have fired up smoothly if it hadn’t been for a bum EL34. But when it finally did, it sounded awesome!
Tubes are: 2 Chinese 12AX7A for V1, V2 and one Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the PI. Power tubes are Ruby EL34BHT (Chinese).
Transformers: Custom Heyboer PT ordered from Jason aka jborders5, Choke and OT are New Sensor NSC125C1A and MOP-100 respectively.
The HT/rectifier PCB comes from jborders5 and the rest of them were bought from Brandon.
Chassis is the CE chassis.
I’m currently waiting on Jelle to provide a head cab for it. Should be…radical!!!
Also, thanks to Shad for the info on this amp. Exciting circuit!
Beautiful work, dig the colorscheme
Forgive my stupidity but what is the switch with all the yellow wires, looks like an impedance switch with like 20 contacts
Jonas, the real 183 had the Jan Phillips 12AX7WA short plates in it. Nice strong ones testing NOS.
These sound totally different than the tubes you used. I'd suggest grabbing some GE shortplates to hear the circuit the way 183 is tubed (at least now).
Tubes similar are the old Sylvania short plates with square getter, GE short plates with halo, and of course the JAN Phillips which seem to be the same as the GE with halo.
Not the Sylvania long grey plates. Avoid these. They are also sometimes labeled JAN.
