Yeah, that is too crazy. I think the internet (search engines, forums) and reality TV has put a damper on finding killer deals period. As soon as someone runs across something, they get on the internet to find it's selling value and then you have folks that think just because it's older than 20 years old it just has to be valuable.
However, I still think eBay is a good source for parts. You know, it's like junk in your attic, you gotta know what to keep and gotta know what to throw away.
It falls in the HiFi / collectors relm - when nothing but the correct piece will do. Lots of what most people would consider junk sparks high $$$ for the hifi crowd. One guys old speaker is another guys TW.
Field coil stuff is making a big comeback in the hifi world because you can vary the speakers gauss and tune the speakers to their environment and they tend to sound great when used correctly. Look up the modern hand made field coil speakers, they sells for a LOT of money and are quite popular. For whatever reason the trend started in Japan and moved over here.
