I wonder why he stopped using the Dumbleator and TC 2290?
He's doing it wrong! You CAN'T run a Dumble without a Dumbleator. Everyone knows that!
Sorry, but it goes to show that no particular piece of equipment is responsible for great tone. It's all about the musician's hands, ears, and heart in harmony (through a Dumble, naturally).
Now with well known players playing all over the world things have to change!!!
Believe it or not most of the money to be made performing live music is not here in the States it's overseas or Canada..
Even the top grossing acts here rents their gear when they get there..
The smaller type clubs in these other countries pay good money and are worth doing, but not worth carrying your prized gear over there so you have a nice pedal board made up put it in the case and give it to your road manager and you get by with what makes good financial sense!!
I see things posted like hey Robben's using a Bludo or a 2 Rock whatever as these are called turn around gigs.(get there play turn around and back on a plane).. Most amp companies will ship them the amp ( on their dime) for these gigs as they are obviously better equipment than the rentals and get it for free and the builders get some exposure and guy's here and on the gear page talks about it..
This is how it all works now!!

Interesting insight Tony! I guess that explains something I've noticed, and that is that LC doesn't tour much in the States but he seems to play the heck out of Japan! I wonder if he takes his Dumble with him....
At the end of the day it's not about getting great tone ( although it is high on the considered list) it's about money and expenses and what's easiest..The bands I work with say the largest crowds now are in Australia..These are the country/pop bands..

Something I notice when watching newer concerts on TV is that the crowds in the UK really dig their live music.
The concerts at The Isle of Wight Festival in particular.
The audience knows all the words and really get into the show.
Not sure how rowdy they get but it looks like a really good time is had.

AFAIK he used this Strat and #0102 for all his gigs together with Miles on this 1986 tour. So IMO "King OF Priests" http://www.discogs.com/Miles-Davis-Feat ... se/3518940 and the videos of these concerts are great demos for the tone of a Strat thru a 4th generation "classic" ODS - and of course great music - at least according to my personal taste. Here's a video that might be of interest in this context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLTmZX6Ts0Y

Do we know for sure that Robben's 102 at the time of the Miles Davis sessions was in fact a low plate or is this just a very educated guess!!
Since we know Gregor's 094 was pretty much a high plate classic?
Thanks!

Tony, I don't know if #0102 has originally been built with a low plate classic or a high plate classic circuit. But I've no doubts that #0102 still had the original "classic" specs (classic tone stack, deep switch etc.) at this point in time (1986).
