And he is getting great tones with a Strat into a D style amp.

VERY GOOD VERY GOOD!

It's a Tele tag.
That is our own boldaslove6789 on those clips.

Re: Two Quinnamp SDQ1 (PCB) amp clips
Thanks for the kind words guys! Loving my Quinn 2nd Gen..... Definitely the end all D-style amp for me.
I've made some updates to my amp since then (NOS Parts, Slightly different B+ Voltages too, NOS Glass).
In those above clips the B+ was low as my amp is a Proto and I'm assuming Shad used New Prod tubes when he built it.
The NOS glass I usually use makes B+ drop quite a bit so I've changed it .
Here's what I ended up with now:
V1 150k: 207v
V1 215k: 200v
V2 150k: 205v
V2 220k: 200v
Another thing I've found since tweaking my amp is the brand of 3w Metal Oxide resistors for the dropping string. I've noticed that some of the "Grail" Era Dumble's have a mix between Koa Speer and NTE 3w metal Oxide.
I messed around with changing out different Brands and the Koa Speers sound better Sonically. i don't know what it is about them that's makes them better sounding but IMHO they do.

DAMN! My parents were right. They told me to much of "that" makes you go blind.

Re: Two Quinnamp SDQ1 (PCB) amp clips
Greg, do you really have 150K on the first stage?

Sorry Tom, I put that to specify that I'm not using the 150k/220k plate resistor config and instead I'm using 150k/215k.Structo wrote:Greg, do you really have 150K on the first stage?
Droppers are a 9k and a 1k9 for V1/V2.

Re: Two Quinnamp SDQ1 (PCB) amp clips
How can V1 voltage be the same or slightly higher than V2? That implies that that there is no voltage drop over your final dropping resistor ( in which case you really don't need it) or that V=IR doesn't work in your ampV1 150k: 207v
V1 215k: 200v
V2 150k: 205v
V2 220k: 200v

Re: Two Quinnamp SDQ1 (PCB) amp clips
I'm by no means an expert, but I believe that different preamp tubes can suck down more current than others changing the plate voltage of that particular stage. I know I've seen that in my #102 build with different tubes.vibratoking wrote:How can V1 voltage be the same or slightly higher than V2? V1 215k: 200v
V2 150k: 205v
V2 220k: 200vor that you have a different power supply topology. What am I missing? Probably something obvious.

Yes, some NOS tubes can muck with the B+, this has been my expieriencr anyways.
I have the following preamp tubes in the amp now:
V1 Clean: GE short grey plate ECC83
V2 OD: Amperex short plate 7025
V3 D-Lator: Telefunken Smooth plate
V4 Reverb : Mullard branded "sheild" ECC83
V5 Verb Driver: Raytheon 12at7
V6 PI: GE short grey plate ECC83

Re: Two Quinnamp SDQ1 (PCB) amp clips
Didn't Robben Ford do that song, Steppin Out?
I can't find any video of it.
I know it was a John Mayall original.
Here is Greg D Clark playing Steppin' Out.
One of the better versions I have heard.
Wicked jam.
Great lead.
