2nd Princeton Reverb

Post by dcribbs1412 »

Got around to building a second PR after trading
first one for some cabs. Nothing new just based on the Allen Sweet spot.
Did add a 4/8 ohm switch and 2.7K/5.4K NFB switch
Using Allen iron, OT is a 30W I believe. Spark test went good (used bulb limiter) threw in some tubes and it sounds decent out of the gates.
Will be rolling some tubes and get it in a cab. Eminence RWB speaker.
I really like this circuit/amp.

Wow!! Great work!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Nice build. I really like this circuit/amp as well. Definitely a keeper. You've got some nice components on that board.

Any chance of a voltage chart? I'd like to see how your voltages compare to mine.

Thanks for taking the time to post this work and the voltages too.
I can hear how good this sounds already!

Recently I heard a PR with Allen iron at Telecaster jam session.
It was in a room full with about fifteen guys all twanging and Keifing away.
In the din I heard something that made me think "now, that is one of the best sounding amps that I've heard in a real long time."
It was a Tele and a lap steel straight into an 80s BFPR with a 5u4 + pre CBS values.
One of these is on my list for this year.

Best, tony

I've seen the prices go way up on these.
I played a 65ish PR a few years ago. It was nice, but I could
not justify the 1800.00-2000.00 at the time.
I see some going for over 2500.00 now.
Would be great to hear both side by side and compare.
If building one I would recommend Allen Amps for parts or kit.

overtone...impressive work on your website

Got her in the cab with the reverb tank.

Thanks telentubes
the PT I used was 310V 0 310V 150ma Allen Amps TP25
not sure what voltages you started with.
Looking at your post you used the Weber W025130 PT?
I think it might have taps for 680V and 540V
if using the 540V tap would explain lower voltages.

Mighty fine looking amp. Really first class.

BTW, what is the purpose of the chassis straps on Fender amps? They do not appear to have any obvious structural function.

That's stunning - looks killer.
I've rebuilt a couple of nasty butchered PR's for friends & both times hated having to give them back.
Seeing your beautiful build just reminded me.
Gotta have one.
The sickness continues.
And you're not helping !
