Max, you've outdone yourself. That is the earliest clip I have ever seen of David. I almost expected him to break into "Eva Braun"Max wrote:David Lindley & El Rayo-X

Larry Carlton - Dumble Steel String Singer 150W
Gil Ayan:
"I guess there should be another one … [Steel String Singer – Max] … , commissioned and owned - at least for a while - by Larry Carlton in the early 90s, used in parts of "Renegade Gentleman" and in "Live at the Greek." For the latter, I saw that show and actually liked LC's Strat sound much better than with his ODS amps, which he used every other time I ever saw him playing his 65 (I believe) Strat".

"Live at the Greek": http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Clarke-Ca ... +the+greek
Larry Carlton talking about his Steel String Singer:
"TCC: It seems like your guitars and amps on that album ("Renegade Gentleman") have more of a raw sound. Where you using the Dumble at all? ..... It seems so much more unrefined. The Dumble gets that sweet glow to it. This is like all hell breaks loose.
LC: I had Dumble make me an amplifier for the second half of the Album. I explained to Dumble what I was looking for in terms of energy and punch with my Strat. He said you want a Steel String Singer. He brought Eric's over for me to play through before he was going to ship it to Eric (Johnson) in Texas. As soon as I played through it, I said that's it, I need that. That's what I used on a lot of the cuts we did down in Nashville."

Steel String Singer 150W data sheet:
"The 'Steel String Singer' is designed to deliver the guitar sound necessary to fill stadiums and large halls. The power ability and tone circuitry work together to produce volume and tone of very exiting dimensions. The amplifier provides the player with a huge, clean sound that is enriched with a warm, singing quality.
SPECIFICATIONS
Power Output: 150 watts of true power
Dimensions: 12”H x 28.25”W x 10.5”D
Weight: 80 pounds (head only)
Power Requirements: 120VAC, 60Herz, & 540VA at full output
Output Impedance: 4 ohms and 8 ohms switchable
Input Impedance: NOR = 1M ohm, and FET = 3.3M ohms
TUBE COMPLEMENT
4 x 7025 high-mu twin triodes
1 x 5751 high-mu twin triode
4 x 6550A beam power tubes
CONTROLS AND EQ SWITCHES
Preamp Controls: volume, treble, middle, and bass
Preamp Switches: bright, deep, rock/jazz, hi step filter & low step filter
Reverb Controls: send, and return levels
Master Section: master volume, and presence
SIGNAL CONNECTIONS
Inputs: NOR, and FET
Access ports: preamp out and power amp input (2.5V, 500K ohms)
Outputs: main speaker, and extension speaker
POWER SWITCHES
A.C. mains on/off
A.C. mains grounding
Operate/standby
REMOTE SWITCHING
Preamp boost on/off
Reverb on/off"
And IMO the attached clip is an example for some rather typical version of such a kind of "clean sound enriched with a warm, singing quality" the big "clean" (in the sense of "non-OD") Dumble amps – like the Dumbeland Special, Dumbleland 300SL, Steel String Singer 150W etc. I know deliver when adjusted for providing such a kind of "singing clean" tone.
Have fun!
Max

Thanks for the update on the links. YouTube is much better.
Dumble amp-lap steel
This my son playing lap steel through a Dumble. I"m playing a Tele through a copy of a Matchless Spitfire.

Re: Dumble video/sound clip reference, real Dumbles only please
Yes I do. I bought it in the mid 80's then had it "updated" and bought the Dumbleator II at that time.
Re: Dumble video/sound clip reference, real Dumbles only please
Just got done listening.
Sounds real nice with the slide.
I envy you, it would be cool to own the real deal.

Thanks,
I was lucky I guess, they've gone up in value a bit since then. I mostly play a Bludotone Bluesmaster these days. He makes a really great amp!
