Re: Z Wreck
There's a rocket built by Allyn for sale @ the gear page... that I'm sure is a good one!!

Re: Z Wreck
I was looking at that amp. Not sure if I am sold on a rocket yet vs a zwreck. From everyhting I hear, its the same amp with a couple small tweaks but it will give me the same thing in the end.
I might do the rocket if I can get it confirmed that it is the same sound as the Zwreck. Like I said earlier. The Z sounds huge and big and powerful to me. It never farted out and just got bigger. The gain kicked in around 1 oclock on the volume.

Re: Z Wreck
Someone posted this in response of my thread in the Z forum:
The wreck is pretty much the best AC30 top boost circuit made these days and it's extremely close(sorry doc). The rx has some similarities but not many. It has different transformers, runs higher voltages, and has more of a Marshall tone stack. The Rocket has the same circuit for the signal path but uses lower voltages and higher filtering in the power supply.

Re: Z Wreck
Randal posted that on Ztalk and he is a member on TAG as well and has many Z amps so he knows what he is talking about.

Re: Z Wreck
Anyone build cherry cabs like what is in this photo? This is my favorite style of Trainwreck cab. The joints are different from what most builders are doing including myself.redshark wrote:There's a rocket built by Allyn for sale @ the gear page... that I'm sure is a good one!!

Re: Z Wreck
Looks like they just ran the side pieces through instead of the top and bottom and used a small radius roundover
Z Wreck schematic
Hello,
I'm a brad paisley fan from Poitiers, France
I can't find the schematic for the wreck in the file section, anyone help?
The reason I wanna build a Z wreck clone is simple:
- there is only one retailer for the Z wreck in france and it's sold at 4200 USD
- I want to start a build and the Z wreck is my choice because I love how it sounds.
Thanks if anyone can help

Re: Z Wreck
The Rocket schem should get you just about there. If this is your first build, do your homework and work slowly.
Re: Z Wreck
yes it's my first build.
thanks for the reply.
I will work slowly that's sure, I'm still learning the tube theory through AX84 project theory and some theory in french I found with the french G5 project.
The forum is just great I'm sure I will find some help here while building the amp.
that can sounds strange but I will work on the amp with plastic gloves...I'm a specialist at shocking myself if not. considering the voltages in an amp I assume it's a pretty good idea

No
No plastic gloves that you can sensibly use will offer enough protection against the high voltages that are there. Also there is the risk of solder 'spikes' or badly trimmed wires perforating the glove.
If you rely on gloves for protection they will only give you a false sense of security and lead to sloppy habits.
Learn how to work safely, and think about what you are doing.
Be neat - Keep the work area tidy.
Buy an alligator clip for your meter leads so you can connect them with no power on the amp.
Keep one hand in your pocket (seriously) - you are less likely to die, but it will still hurt.

Re: Z Wreck
ok, no gloves
gloves= sloppy habits
I get it
Avant de toucher, pensez. That's a good advice
I took a look on the rocket schematic and I'm surprised that V3 is half connected. is it normal? I mean there is no V3b?
Tillydog, as you're in the UK do you know a good supplier for the PT and OT and eventually for the choke in europe?

Re: Z Wreck
I think you mean V2. V3 is the inverter. There's no issue leaving one side unused, unless you can't stand that idea, a la LeftyStrat.
The Rocket is pretty much the AC30TB brilliant channel with upped filtering and changes to the layout, B+ string, etc. I built one and it's my favorite amp so far.

Re: Z Wreck
no no I mean V3
I don't know what an inverter is... that's why I'm surprised
dumb me
I need to go back to my homework.

Re: Z Wreck
V3 is the phase inverter. It splits the signal into two signals 180* apart and sends them to each pair of power tubes. Both sides of that tube are used. Study the different symbols used to represent the cathode, anode and grids and you'll have a much easier time reading schems. Not too hard, and once it's habit, you'll not have much trouble. Also resistors, caps, diodes and transformers, but those are really easy.
Re: Z Wreck
ok thanks.
