Re: speakers for SSS
cali is loosely based on jbl, michigan on EV sro. I'd try a EVM or new Fane axa or medusa

Don't forget the Celestion G12-65 or the Warehouse version the ET65.
http://celestion.com/product/26/heritage_series_g1265/
Celestion G12-65 retails around $170 each.
The Warehouse ET65 retails for $69
http://wgs4.com/content/et65
I haven't tried either, but the 12-65 is a widely used speaker on Dumble and clones alike and besides, Robben likes them.
Not to take anything away from Weber but they want $112 for their Cali.
The Cali does appear to be modeled after theJBL D120F.
They tend to be a pretty bright speaker due to the aluminum dust cap.
The Eric Johnson Eminence EJ1250-16 also looks promising.
But spendy at around $265 each.
The Eminence DELTA PRO-12A seems to be modeled after the EVM 12L in specs.
$135 ea.
I have a 2 x 12 with EVM 12L's I like a lot.
The EVM's seem to be an honest speaker that doesn't impart much coloration to the tone.
You hear what your amp sounds like.
Expensive at around $250 ea.
But perhaps a speaker more like the 12-65 would work better.
Can't afford to experiment due to the expense but I would love to try some different speakers some day.
I realize you only asked about the Weber speaker but there are a lot of choices out there.

Vintage jbl g125 in 12, g135 in 15, perfect. These speakers are under the radar compared to the other models that aren't as "good sounding." Enough top end for sparkly SSS cleans and big, very accurate low and lower mids. Warm presentation overall.

Re: speakers for SSS
If you keep an eye on eBay, you can pick up a vintage EVM-12L for as low as $100, though add about $25 for shipping.
Like Tom said, these are sort of hifi and don't add coloration, which is sort of the point of the SSS.
The originals handled 300 watts.

Sight unseen, only buy vintage speaks seen, as in with pics. If they look rough or uncertain, budget in getting a recone -- after checking that the right recone kit still exists.
I got an EVM-12L in great shape (looks new, sounds played in but not beat) in a well-built TL-806 cab for something like $115. Great speaker.

Yeah, someone sells EVM-12L recone kits on eBay for $50.Bear wrote:Sight unseen, only buy vintage speaks seen, as in with pics. If they look rough or uncertain, budget in getting a recone -- after checking that the right recone kit still exists.

The fact that the older ones handled 300 watts, unless they've been physically abused (and it would show), they're usually okay.
EDIT: Oh yeah. The EVM-12L's weight close to 25 pounds. But you only need one.

The Thiele TL806 cab is a ported cab designed especially for the EVM-12L.grtamp wrote:thanks for all your suggestion!! now I'm little confused , I'd like to go with EVM12L but I'm not sure to buy a used speakers.

They're also pretty compact.

Re: speakers for SSS
Unless it looks like this it's not happening, mahogany plywood cabinet. 4 x 12 EVM12
3/4" with 1/2" baffle. Baltic birch is to bright so is pine. Mahogany plywood has a warmth to it.
I found this out the hard way with combo cabinets. I have a quad of EVM12L and a quad of
Fane studio 12L. Soon to have a SSS #6 and SSS #7 installed efx loops to help keep my ears from bleeding
with D-lators. It's all fun.

Re: speakers for SSS
The Eminence DELTA PRO-12A is a helluva speaker IMO. I have swapped it back and forth with a GOOD EV12L and the results are excellent for the money.

Can you elaborate please. Are SSS #6 and #7 different.67plexi wrote:Soon to have a SSS #6 and SSS #7 installed efx loops to help keep my ears from bleeding

Re: speakers for SSS
@leftystrat, Earliest evm12l were 200 watts, not 300. 300 watt came later. both types appear all the time on eBay, a friend of mine bought some there and they were not all that great, had been abused, he felt like some of the used ones there were pretty beat up/played to fatigue.
Still staying with my JBL g125 and g135 in 12 and 15 as being seriously wonderful speakers paired with a D-clone. At the time just before they were made (for a period of about 3 years), JBL bought all of the leading guitar speakers and took them to their lab, and came up with something designed to surpass them in an open back cab. They were designed for a flat frequency response, and for good distorted tones as well as great cleans, they succeeded brilliantly IMO, but with different cabs, guitars, and amps your mileage may vary...

Just remember if you use these old JBL's double check the polarity as most of them are backwards..Still staying with my JBL g125 and g135 in 12 and 15 as being seriously wonderful speakers paired with a D-clone.
