What's been your best antique, thrift, pawn find this year?
Mine was a 1959 hi-fi console with telefunken el84s and a 1959 concert Jensen 15" speaker for $35 at an antique store. I didn't know it had the telefunkens or the 15 - until I pulled off the back- I just knew it sounded great and I hook up my old marantz turntable to it and get some great sounds. I figured $35..... What the heck...

Okay, where do you find a place where they don't think anything old and dusty is worth $1000?

This was in my own backyard. Bowling green KY... Is was an antique shop that had a guy that was a self proclaimed "audiophile" and the upstairs was nothing but stereo equipment he'd set up from the 80s,90s,and 00s. This particular item was downstairs with a sign that said "Works 39.95" I told him I'd do $35 (was all I was carrying) and take it then- he was surprised I was even interested..
I pulled the telefunkens replaced em with new jj's and guess where the TF tubes went....

Nice find indeed! Telefunkens, no less.

I don't even bother with the pawn shops anymore.
Ever since ebay they inflate the values so there is no good deal.
Except, you see the same dusty shit every time you go in.
Several years ago I was looking at a Bassman Ten 4x10 combo.
They wanted $500 for it.
When I asked if I could try it out the guy said it was being sold as is and no, I could not play through it.
I muttered, good luck on the way out the door.
It was still sitting there six months later.....

Broken 1965 Showman for $300 and 30 minutes of my time to fix. Now she sounds great and I'm debating whether to keep or sell.
