I like to get my enclosures from http://www.pedalenclosures.com/ because of the neat designs available.

Ah... how 'bout boring through, large enough for the knobs you're using then attach a plate to the enclosure under the holes to hold the pots?

Has anyone painted on one of Small Bear's powdercoated enclosures? Have an orange enclosure, was going to do like a black screened design on it. Would acrylic paint be good, and then a clear lacquer? I've heard powdercoat doesn't really allow stuff to adhere to it.

I've done it once. Scuffed up the powdercoat with 220grit, spayed on a clear base coat sealer from Auto Air then spayed coloured acrylic (airbrush) to darken the edges a bit, give them some contrast. Couple nicks over the years, one down to bare medal, one to the powdercoat on a corner.

Clearcoated with lacquer added decals then many more light coats of lacquer to seal it all in. Lots of drying time between the various steps.

Have had issues with spray can lacquer over acrylic, sometimes they play nice, sometimes not, always used the same brand of lacquer. I've been using Target 7000 waterbase lacquer for over a year now without any such problems.

Hey Guys, first time posting in this thread. And I hope my question is okay here, in this thread.

I've been trying to find LED bezels with no luck. I believe they were called bezels back in the 80's. I am sure vendors like Mouser and Digi-Key have these, but apparently, I don't know what they are called these days, and so I cannot find them on either site.

Basically, these are two-part plastic mounting fixtures. The first part is a cylindrical sort of thing that pushes through the hole in the panel. From the outside, it appears to be a black ring that the dome of the LED protrudes through. From the back, the cylinder is split into quarters, with a feature at the end that grabs the tiny flange at the base of the LED's body. You push the LED into this until it snaps into place. Then comes the second part in the system, which is nothing more than a plastic ring with grooves inside and it is pressed down onto the LED housing (the first half of the system) to firmly holds the LED into the bezel, but also presses up against the back side of the panel to keep the bezel from pushing up, out of the top of the panel.

I see these on production pedals, so I know they still exist.

Any idea what the proper name is for these things?

Thanks,
Lou

Radio Shack has plastic mounting rings as you describe for 5mm LEDs as well as metal chromed bezels and assemblies that are secured with a nut. The later are de rigueur on D-type amps. I have bought the plastic snap-in ones from Mouser or DigiKey too. Try searching LED mounting ring.

I've seen some very cool builds where people are using Fresnel lenses for the led's, this is the Mouser catalogue page they've directed to for various options. They look really sharp and protrude minimally above the surface of the enclosure.
