Yes, the 25pf was a bit too bright for my taste, and the 270pf too attenuated, which is how I ended up at 94pf.
I do wish I had dropped the series resistor value down from the 180K before changing the snubbers.

A worthy area of experimentation. What if you left in the 25pF and upped the resistor?

Don’t think I want to go higher than the 180K…in fact I’m going to drop in a 150K today and taste. If good, I’ll adjust snubber values from there.

Popped in a 152K Piher resister in front of the level pot and can hardly believe the improvement! Also changed out the Redplates 2 position fat/thin switch (changes the 1st cathode bypass from .68 to 4.7uf) to a 3 position: both @ .68; 1 @ .68 with 1 5uf, or both @ 5uf’s.
Getting really darn close; could live with it just as is and be very happy.
