Where to sell Trainwreck clones?
So Ebay won't let me sell these right? Can I post them under a pseudo-name (ChooChooCrash Missile)? I read somewhere that Fender is now chasing down people who use their name/product names without permission.. Can I sell on Reverb.com without any issues?
Where do you guys sell your clones?

I haven't had any issues on reverb.com. But I don't mention the TW word:

Logic says that if you use famous registered names to sell, displaying them in the heading, front panel, literature, etc. so customers feel the desire to buy based on that, you are using something hard earned by the originals to which you are not entitled.Cliff Schecht wrote:So Ebay won't let me sell these right? I won't use the word "fraud" but some might see it that way ... specially their Lawyers.
Hey !!!! they get paid to be paranoid !!!
Now if you sell your own amps, Missile brand , ChooChooCrash model and in the description (not in the heading or in big bold letters) you explain the sound as "similar to .... " or "circuit roughly based on .... " or in a YT video in a given moment you say: "now I'll demonstrate the TW mode ... " , you shouldn't have big trouble.
Of course first check that "Missile" and "ChooCooCrash" brands are still available ... which may not be anymore after this post gets read by a few.
Re: Where to sell Trainwreck clones?
You can probably sell on eBait as choo choo or something like that. Just don't get too close to the protected name. The real issue is, how do you name it so the listing will get into circulation in front of the right audience? It is appropriate to respect the intellectual property. You only build it because someone else designed it. It isn't right to appropriate the name, too.
If you really get into it, establish your own brand. For several years there was an eBay seller of the Bugle Boy amp (or something like that), which was an outright clone of the Fender Champ (I forget which circuit) and he posted his wares week after week for several years and then "retired." His last few ads announced his retirement, so I'm reasonably sure it was voluntary.

Thanks. The nice thing about reverb.com is there is no fee for posting a listing, and no expiration. So, even though I don't really want to sell it, I can list it at a price that's in my "great, I'll build another one" range.Teleguy61 wrote:Wow.

Xtian, what Dynaco/Dynaclone PT are you using if I may ask? Their only mono block PTs are for EL34/6550 voltages. The only EL84 type is the stereo one for the ST/SCA35 amp or integrated.

The trannies camed from RJ. Here's a shot where you can read the labels.

Re: Where to sell Trainwreck clones?
The Rocketdog looks totally cool, but if you use a ruler, you can get the handle a lot closer to the middle. I'm guessing that you put the handle off center to match those covers with the off-center handle slot, right? You probably get those covers at a big discount. Or maybe it's just hard to put a handle in the center of a TW style amp, is that why KF never did?
Re: Where to sell Trainwreck clones?
Pretty sure he offset the handle for balance.
I don't like the looks of offset handles but that is his choice.
I'm selling this Express dressed in white cab tomorrow.
It is using the new Rocking Class Pacific transformer set, the owner likes it that's all that matters.

Yeah, the handle is at the center of gravity, smart pants. But that's OK, she thinks you look kind of weird, too.sixstringer wrote:The Rocketdog looks totally cool, but if you use a ruler, you can get the handle a lot closer to the middle.
