If cost is a concern, I just used a Musical Power Supplies OT40PP for a quad of cathode-biased 6V6s. I really like it, but haven't tried it side-by-side with other OTs.
It's rated at 45VA, 40Hz - 15kHz. 29M6 laminations, USA made. No idea who's actually doing the winding, but this guy really seems to know how to spec a transformer.

They sell them primarily through ebay, but you can also email the guy I think.
Which OT for a 4x6V6 or 2x6L6 build?

I have used one of his early 18watt OT's.
I will probably buy the Bassman OT from Triode though.

Thanks for the responses.
I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the difference between a Fender style OT's and Marshall style... Or Dynaco style OT's, etc. (assuming about ~4k primary good for a pair of 6L6's or quad of 6V6's)
.
I'm hoping for physical differences and sonic impact of those difference. It appears that mass has a way of extending the frequency range. Are there other effects one should expect?
