Aren’t the CMF series essentially more or less the same as the RN? Or is this a new “non magnetic” series different than usual? It’s listed new on Mouser . ROHS compliant.FUCHSAUDIO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 6:25 pm Despite many companies exporting amps with the Dale RN65 resistors in them, as of today, they do still not appear to be RoHs compliant.

Re: Non-NOS component choices
Some very good info here. Applying this to currently available filter cap values, is there a consensus on suitable replacements for 300uF 350V filter caps? I see the #124 schematic listed here shows the filter cap node with two 300uF 350V caps in series for a 150 uF 700V net. If #102 has two 220uF 300V for a 110uF 600V outcome, perhaps this is suitable (and not blasphemous
)? Thanks.

Just plug it in, man.

Close but not exact… ARS capacitors come in 270uf @ 450vdc radial can and 400vdc snap in …good caps with long lifeViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. Edit: they say they are out. Waiting on reply whether they will ever be in .
Edit: only available via bulk OEM orders

I remember way back, I was going to convert an old Fender Bassman to a dumble ODs (long story but it got cut short ) .ViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. When I first saw the 300uf caps in the schematics and I couldn’t find any easy replacement , I was just gonna pack the doghouse on the fender with x6 100 uf spragues I had lying around.
Lol when I finally got around to building an ODS in a standard size chassis , remembering how much room they occupied I did think about stacking them like a trainwreck and making a glue castle, but I conceded at 220uf instead lol .
I still have those 6x sprague all glued together in a box somewhere

It's no wonder that future versions (and maybe more with cloners) have resorted to radial capacitors for easier real estate, but they're not easy to find either.WhopperPlate wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 8:09 pmI remember way back, I was going to convert an old Fender Bassman to a dumble ODs (long story but it got cut short ) .ViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. Yes! Finding acceptable non nos components has practically always been an evolving dilemmaViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 9:06 pmIt's no wonder that future versions (and maybe more with cloners) have resorted to radial capacitors for easier real estate, but they're not easy to find either.WhopperPlate wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 8:09 pmI remember way back, I was going to convert an old Fender Bassman to a dumble ODs (long story but it got cut short ) .ViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. epcos, nichicon, kemet, UCC, Miec and so on, are making caps for 600V and are not expensive, time to go in this way..and use only 1 cap instead of 2 in series..ViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. Or we can all pitch on a bulk order of the only axial cap leftbepone wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 10:44 amepcos, nichicon, kemet, UCC, Miec and so on, are making caps for 600V and are not expensive, time to go in this way..and use only 1 cap instead of 2 in series..ViperDoc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:17 pm Some very good info here. Re: Non-NOS component choices
until now for elcos massively /without any defect in 15 yrs UCC KMG, and often also popular F&T..
from 600V i didnt any, but it is a time now, how they are developing.. no sense to waste money in sprague/ 2 in series

Re: Non-NOS component choices
It’s all a matter of what is considered a waste. I still can’t find any other capacitor that sounds exactly like a sprague…or a F&T for that matter . Neither are my personal favorite , but if that’s what you want to hear then that’s what you want to use. Good luck trying to find anything that sounds like the old Daly caps in Marshalls …

Re: Non-NOS component choices
i shared this search list in another thread. Felt it was a good link to share here concerning finding modern available Carbon films for the B+ string .

Re: Non-NOS component choices
Was thinking about other Non nos parts I have tried, and one interested power resistor were the Mills non inductive resistors . Expensive , but tank like ratings and it was pretty startling how swapping it into the b+ line determined the response of the amplifier .
Again , kinda like the takman effects on the signal path , I felt like I was under the magnifying glass . The amplifier slapped me around , felt like it had more output power because of the lack of distortion , not as bouncy and gainy, but the dimension was crazy . Not brittle , but wow was it loud in my ears and head . Stout was a word used to describe it .
That amp wasn’t mine, so it was changed to deliver a softer sound, but it’s something I want to try out again Soon.
