Express vs Asteroid? Komet?

I'm curious how the Asteroid (Komet?) circuit differs sound/tone-wise to the Express circuit. I know the effects of the split load mod. I'm more interested in the changes at v2 and into the PI.

I'm considering making the preamp changes, up to the PI, to the Express that I've built. Just wondering what I should expect. This looks to be the same preamp design.

Well, I tried most of the preamp changes, and I think I'm putting it back to Express specs. The only thing I didn't do was the 200/330k divider. It starts to sound like a Marshall, which I already have. It also loses some of the clean up with the guitar volume.

It would retain the cleanup if you changed the divider between the stages as well.

It does need the divider. The Komet is a little Marshallish early in the volume, but at like 7 the mids are controlled insanity. It's not as brittle as an Express.

Does the divider also reduce the gain some? I'm torn about whether I want to continue one (the divider would require moving some stuff around and adding another turret), or going back to Express spec.

Also, what can you tell me about the K60 vs the Concorde? Sounds like the Concorde uses the used v2 triode for a CF?

Yeah absolutely the divider reduces gain. You go from the Express configuration which is basically no divider allowing full signal through, to the Komet voltage divider that cuts signal almost in half.

I have no first hand experience of an actual Komet though so can't comment on tonal differences, but I know the Concorde has more gain than the K60 and possibly even the Express. Again, the Concorde has no voltage divider there and it's cold clipper stage is biased warmer increasing gain.

The voltages and filtering are different also, which I'm sure makes a significant difference.

Shrink wrap the division to wire and ignore adding a turret. I MUCH prefer the Komets to the Express.

I'm also considering replacing all the Orange 715 caps with Mallory 150. There's an ear fatiguing high tone that I can't dial out. Especially with higher notes on the B and E strings.
