I also had problems with my password and created a new account. Creating accounts was not working before too.

@xtian could you also send the reset password e-mail for my previous account (Thomas_H), please?

I cannot send a link to reset password. But I have created a new PW for you, and emailed it to the address on record for user Thomas_H.

Yeah, you can send yourself a reset password link EXCEPT that requires email on the forum to work, which, as stated, it does not.

Looks like the site right now is having major issues with either the hosting provider under a DDOS attack or their servers are just having a really hard time handling traffic, I keep getting throttled when I try to load pages.

Oh I hadn't noticed that, may be the cause? At any rate, though, it's still happening to me today. Maybe someone performing a form of DDoS? I can barely get pages to load at this point.

Maybe leaving the forum open to registered members only would help. At least for a while

If they're doing what I think, all they need is ANY page and the login page is one of them. They can just constantly load the login page and it will slow down the site and cause issues. Due to the fact that the hosting provider doesn't seem to be doing anything proactive to catch/stop this it just reinforces my thoughts about how horrible they are. It impacts all their customers if scammers/spammers/hackers are DDoS'ing any of their customers.

Hello Phil --

One of the newer hosting service infestations are automated "content" harvesters collecting training data for feeding LLM training. Like the search scanners of old but people tell me there are many more active, they less well behaved, and making more frequent sweeps. If this is indeed our current plague, as "guests" they would just need read-only and capping the peek guest access connections would presumably mitigate.

Friendly thoughts based on modest gossip.

Pretty much all phpBB forums are getting attacked. Blocking Alibaba Cloud LLC ip address ranges will get rid off most of the bots at least temporarily.

The last few days I haven’t been able to log into Amp Garage. I turned my iPhone off for a while and was able to log in.
Yours Sincerely

I'm pretty sure they have read only and can't view images right now as is. they're just scraping text. I'll see if there are settings to limit guests connections by IP in the software somehow.

The only problem is that this forum is hosted by the owner at a shared site. The forums aren't on a unique IP and I don't believe we have the ability to throttle/rate limit/block by IP or IP list on the hosting provider side. They're pretty bad.

My first time being able to access this site in a little over a week of trying. I noticed this is also the 1st time the online users are under 1800.

The last few times I was getting a Text only version of the site ( reminded me of the old Bulletin Boards) and I noticed the online users were over 3000.

When I go into an actual topic on our site its a lot less users, usually just 3 - 27.

I think we have a Facebook version of this site. That maybe a good place for everyone to reconnect too.

Cheers

IP addresses can be blocked using .htaccess file. That way it only affects traffic coming to this forum and nothing else on the server.
