Some reverse engineering & tracing of the JHS pedal. It's very much "inspired by" the Dumble A Box Later and not a direct lift. Very unfortunate.. The mystery and chase continues...

In other news, the De Minimus tariff has come down a little bit so I'll work on getting more more authentic-Dumble inspiration back in stock.

Update, update. I posed a question to Josh @ JHS asking to clarify the various marketing material indicating that the NOTADUMBLE is suggesting it's a exact replica (his words) of the Dumble A Box Later. I carefully presented the case that some things aren't lining up based on the gut shots Gil provided. He's going to make a video explaining whatever there is to explain from his position. Grab your popcorn.

For you guys who’ve built the NOTADÜMBLË, what do you think of it? When I put it in front of the Dumble style amps I’ve built I wasn’t all that thrilled. In front of my tweed deluxe it freakin’ rocks though (especially the clean side).

I had the exact same experience as you! Doesn't really add anything to an ODS but sounds really good through my Top Hat Deluxe style amp. I think he did an amazing job on this pedal.

Frankly, I wasn't impressed with the notadumble.
It'll be interesting to see if the estate goes after them for the name.

What amp did you play it through Andy? Your amps sound great by the way. The notadumble in front of your amps would just mess up an already good sound.

Oh man, this is pretty funny considering Ryan's meticulous work in reversing the A Box Later circuit with Ayan's input - the level of detail that was able to be unearthed through lots of back and forth and circuit comparisons to arrive at an informed place about what that circut was and how it was structured. If it weren't for that, I don't know if this "goof" would have ever been noticed, what with the absolute rarity of this circuit.

I feel inclined to see how the factors that were given could have created a situation where this could happen, and certainly the two cloned Dumble boost circuits sound similar enough, but that's not really the point when chasing stuff like this down. Fortunately for JHS, I'm guessing it's also not something that a good number of the NOTADÜMBLË customers probably care much about which of the boost circuits were specifically cloned, provided they sound about as much alike as anyone would care for functional reasons. Josh seems like a good-willed contributor to the obscure guitar effect information share, so I have a hard time seeing that this could have been an intentional misrepresentation based on the idea that there's practically no way for anyone to know.... besides our friends here at The Amp Garage putting together 7 pages of a thread specifically dissecting the A Box Later circuit and methods of creating a modern recreation using available parts.

Thanks, @rccolgan, @ayan, and everyone else for sharing the meticulous amount of info around this mythical box that lead us here to this point, and really, good on Josh for owning it with transparency and humility at first chance. A funny situation all around.

A lie is a lie. There was only one way legally this scumbag could have been stopped from this selling his little Dumble poke in the eye and that was if he “misrepresented “ the product. He did it on a silver platter. John Mayer you suck. Haha.

Thanks, guys. I showed Josh that there was literally one mention about the BBC-1 here back in 2008 lol. Never once did I see a pic of it. Not saying I'm an expert in all things Dumble, but I don't think it's talked about much. I remain strong supporting our open dialogue and community dissection of Dumble circuits.

I do believe the BBC-1 is meant to clean up and "fix" Deluxe Reverbs or other low-ish headroom amps. It is like an "active circuit" of @Gil's Smooth and Slim device! Super cool and I'm glad we get to see the real BBC-1 circuit come to life. I can start a thread or reply back to the original BBC-1 circuit once I finish reverse engineering the NOTADUMBLE I have.
