Re: A SSS Build
Looks fantastic!
How did the footswitchable FET come out? I'm working on a 2nd/3rd Gen right now using one of Erwin's chassis. This is the first time I'll be trying that.
I'm following Martin's diagram to a T but it's hard to test how it is working without everything else being completed. I did jumper in 120VAC to the Relay PT to test those connections. Relays received their voltages and the footswitches lit up as supposed to.

Re: A SSS Build
Thanks Matt J!
FET works as I was hoping-good. I just followed the same concept as the ODS's, 12 volt relays for the FET and Reverb. Biggest issue was fitting in the relay boards which actually wasn't too bad. Nice thing about using the ODS design is 12 volts is DC so I didn't need to worry about introducing additional 60hz noise source.
Sounds like you are coming along nicely with your build. For the relays verifying correct action of the contacts with a meter should be good enough for test purposes. Good luck and enjoy the build.

Looks great! Is that rosewood or cocobolo on the front fascia for the headcab?

Its Cocobolo brought to a high gloss.

Re: A SSS Build
Bought some Mercury Magnetics iron, AN chassis and several other items from a long time member on TAG. I won't name him but he's welcome to speak up if he wishes. Anyway I'm very grateful for the fantastic deal!!!
I decided the iron would be best suited to upgrade my baby (this SSS) from the Mojotone/Heyboer I built it with. This past week I was off work burning up some vacation time (use it or lose it...) so have had time to do the swap. Here are the after pictures. I still need to put on some tie wraps but basically it's done. It has been powered up to check voltages but that's it. The Tung Sol 7581A power tubes that were in it will not go back in, I didn't really love them. Right now I've got a quad of JJ 6L6GC's from Eurotubes in it to check voltages but they haven't been biased yet-they're set at about 11 watts currently. All voltages were in the ballpark but I ran out of time to do anything more. Was able to spend some quality time with my 16 year old son today changing the water pump in the pick-up he'll drive when he gets his license in a few weeks
When i do get back to this amp I'll try various power tubes in it. Currently i have the JJ 6L6GC's that are in it, quad of JJ KT66's i can try, or even some Sovtek 6L6WXT+'s I have in another amp that I really like. I'm open to any input anyone has to offer on any of these tubes.

Re: A SSS Build
Spending some time with this. It is an extremely clean amp, not really any distortion until Master Volume turned past 8, then it's just a little bit of power tube crossover distortion. This distortion and clipping both begin at close to 30vRMS. Everything is viewed at 8 ohm load (OT output to speaker). This is with no FET.
If FET is added clipping can be introduced at V1. Turning both FET Volume and Input Volume up is required to obtain clipping shown. Clipping can be controlled by turning either Volume down. This clipping is independent of Master Volume level.
Power tubes, JJ 6L6GC's, biased at about 60%, 40mA @ 444vdc. V1 is 204 & 205 vdc.

Re: A SSS Build
Nice looking build! Sorry, I didn't catch which version of schematic you used for this. Did I miss that?

Re: A SSS Build
Thank you Dorrisant
No, you didn't miss it. Sadly I failed to provide it and thank the people responsible for putting it together so:
SSS #002 schematics, both hand drawn and drafted, layout, and photos. I also used Martin Mannings suggested changes to the filters-Thank You Martin!!!
There's several people that contributed to supplying and putting together this information and I thank them ALL!!!

Re: A SSS Build
It's a beauty for sure, inside and out! Where did the PCB set come from? If it's in the thread I missed it on a quick scan through. I guess you are liking the modified filters? Do the ranges seem good for your purposes??
Re: A SSS Build
Thank you Martin!
The chassis and board set came from Erwin, EXCELLENT SET!!! If/when I build another #002 I'll be bugging him to make another run
Yes, I really like the filters! I did not try the original filters so am unable to give any comparison opinion, but I am very happy with what you created. Again, thank you for the work you put into creating and posting these.

Re: A SSS Build
Great build Glenn! Looks fresh with those pure wooden cabs.
Maybe in the far future I'll do another run. I just have to much work on my hands to handle this. A
Also my last experience under new US import rules were a paperwork nightmare on both US import rules and shipping company rules.
Locallly made pays off for anyone interested and files are available for free.
Happy holidays!

Re: A SSS Build
Thank you for the compliments and kind words Erwin
This is one of my "Forever Amps" for sure. I'm still figuring out how to record and share some clips of it. Mostly it's a matter of getting one of my sons, both much more talented guitar players than myself, to play it for me.
I understand how the current state of things makes international shipping not only difficult but potentially very expensive. Thank you for making the files freely available.
