Weber Revibe Tremolo/Reverb

Post by RockinRocket »

Have a question about how bypassing the effects work. You can find the schematic link at the bottom of the page https://www.tedweber.com/5h15-c-kt/

This is based on the original Fender 5g15 reverb unit with the addition of trem. When bypassing the reverb on the original Fender unit the signal goes through the cathode follower mix tube. Will add a bit of compression.

On the Revibe unit if you bypass both reverb and trem where does the signal go to make its way through to the amp?? V1B then to V4a/b and out to amp?
If this is correct how much has the bypass tone been altered?

Correct. The tone is always affected by V4 but not in a bad way. You will need a true bypass switch if you want the output to be the identical to the input.

Look at my revibe to see the signal paths.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Did Hoffman design the unit and Weber steal it? Just trying to figure out if I go kit who I should spend my money with.

Wonder if I could implement a true bypass for the unit hmm..

Not sure who designed the revibe but Hoffman had one long before Weber did. Weber's first revibe used a more common tremolo circuit then later switched to the harmonic tremolo.

Weber offers a kit with all parts. Hoffman only offers the boards and small components. My version is a pure scratch build. You would have to build your own board and drill your own chassis. Several people have built my version with good results.

A true bypass is just a simple DPDT switch that switches the input and output. Easy to do.

According to Weber, their ReVibe was designed by Jeff Gehring. I have no clue as to whose was first.

Id be more interested in a footswitch true bypass. But maybe it be easier (tho not cost effective) to build a Fender reverb unit and some tube driven pedal board tremolo.

Replace switch with a relay.

Best of both worlds would be to get the Weber chassis and cabinet, then get the guts from Hoffman. Since a lot of Weber's parts are sourced from China the quality can be not as good as more well known brands (pots and jacks and switches especially). Transformers are good though.

A lot of Weber's stuff *is* sourced from China, but, after complaints, I believe they switched to Carling switches and Neutrik jacks. Not sure if that's still the case (or if it ever was, for sure), but that's what was reported. I miss their old resistors. They used to have longer, thicker leads.

I haven't looked in awhile either, but I think they still provide the cheaper parts with the kits but give you the option to upgrade.

I have a Revibe kit that I got about 10 years ago from them and haven't been able to build it yet. I only got the chassis and cabinet and transformers, and the rest I'm sourcing elsewhere. One of these days I'll get it done.
