Soldano kits

Post by JohnJankowski »

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this, but it’s a start.

I learn about tube amp architecture by building the occasional kit. I’ve built 3 kits, a Fender Deluxe Reverb, a Marshall JCM45 and just recently, a Hiwatt DR103 clone. After the Fender and Marshall kits, I’ve built clones and a few of my own designs, based on that knowledge. It’s been a fun hobby so far.

My latest, a Hiwatt clone, was a fun project. And to take things a step further, I’m considering a SLO 100 clone, as well.

Other than an outfit called Rosamps, I see no one else offering kits. At least that I’m aware of. So that’s my question…what are some sources for Soldano kits?

I'm not sure if it is still around or active but there used to be a "SloClone" forum.

Andrea offers a nice PCB. Haven't built that one, but I've been very happy with his TW and Fender boards. https://www.aaelectronicspcb.com

Ceriatone offers kits and has DC heater.

Rosamp got ac heaters and too low voltages on the slo30

Weber has a take on it, but it's not exactly the same. They use relays for switching, for one. They're also out of stock right now, but here's the info: https://www.tedweber.com/heather-c-kt/

Might be worth waiting for it to be in stock if price is an issue and the tariffs are hitting too hard (assuming you're in the US).

Five years ago, I built a 50 watt SLO kit from C3 Amps with excellent results. C3 Amps is located in Texas, and the owner is Rob Reeder. It’s a one man operation and you can expect up to a week before you get a reply from Rob. IMO, it’s the best SLO kit out there, especially if authenticity is desirable.

I recently bought another c3 SLO chassis and boards. He is not building cabs right now.

I also bought a KLD SLO 30 tranny set and boards. They are designing chassis now. The tranny set had such short wires so I told them that's not going to cut it. They use the Rosa layout and schematic.

I am considering a SLO100 build, preferably with dual EQ.

Got tubes and transformers (120w, 2k OT; 345vac PT)

How interesting. Must be Soldano season. I'm also working on a Soldano inspired build. My most challenging layout so far, for sure.

What transformers did you get? I'm also considering a Ceriatone kit, but I like to source my own transformers.

I've got dutch transformers from the Koch 120w powertone 2 amp (also used on 100w multitone, but with different taps for lower voltage)
