I'm with Helmholz on this, unless you can cite some more authoritative source that supports your view. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrica ... -Glisson-2

Okay we're splitting hairs here.martin manning wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2026 9:49 am I'm with Helmholz on this, unless you can cite some more authoritative source that supports your view. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrica ... -Glisson-2
As far as the power supply is concerned, the entire amp circuit is "a load". But the load that the power tubes are driving...the one we are most concerned with that gives the amplifier its primary purpose...is the output trafo/speaker combo. The speaker converts the electrical energy from the amplifier into mechanical energy that we interpret as sound. The tube is what modulates the load current through the primary of the output transformer to achieve this.
A tube would not have a load line if it itself were a load.

Sounds like we have converged then.

I think we both know how tube amps work.flemingmras wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2026 3:24 am I mean you have every right to be wrong. I'm not saying this to be snarky. But you can "like to consider" all you want. It doesn't make your consideration less wrong.
But we are using different concepts of "load".
Just being dogmatic isn't helpul here.
