Before i toss it and find another one, any ideas on how to...

Post by iknowjohnny »

.... make this chorus stop ticking? It does it whether the effect is on or off, battery or PSU, and all by itself with no other pedals. Tried a 100uf across the PSU to no avail. Happens only into the front, not in the loop but can't use loop anyways. I'd just buy another cheap clone but i've had this happen with boss and ibanez too. Plus theres something about it's tone i like a lot more than any chorus pedals i have had in the past so id really like to be able to use it. It only seems to happen with analog chorus, or at least more so than digital. Any other ideas before i sh*t-can it?

Behringer, but before you say it's cheap garbage, i've had several name brand chorus' that did the same with other amps to. It;s a common issue with analog chorus' but theres gotta be some way to deal with it.

So does the tick occur if the effect is bypassed?
Is it affected by the modulation depth control setting?
Is most of the pcb using SMD components, does it use the reissued MN3xxx BBD and controller chipset?

It ticks no matter what. pedal by itself no other pedals, battery or PSU, pedal on or off, and it's speed is affected by the rate control but no other controls affect it. Gets louder with the amp's volume. Don't know what chip.

Ok, I suggest to try to get the 100uF cap fitted on the board somehow, after the reverse polarity protection diode on the 9V feed in from the power socket / battery.
Ideally it would be across the supply rails, close by the modulation oscillator circuit.

Ok, if i can figure out where to put it i'll try that. There should be room because the thing is very spacious inside if i recall when i opened it. I'll let u know what i find, but being a cheap budget build it's likey all suface mounts stuff and with that plus no schematic it may e impossible for me at least. I'll look at it right now. Thanks.

I can't figure it out w/o a schematic, but heres a pic and i assume the diode in the middle of the 3 PSU jack terminals is what you're talking about. But none of the 2 terminals is a dead short to either side f that diode. the red dot is the positive, tho i'm sure u know.

I just found a full size diode coming from the battery hot so i assumed thats also connected to the power jack. I removed the plug from the jack and tested the side of that diode opposite of the battery + to ground with the 100uf and no joy. I think it;s just a design flaw with the output jack terminal within about 1/8" from the clock chip.
