Preferred screen resistors?

Post by AtomCap »

What say ye on screen resistor choice for 100watt marshalls?
I've been using bourns wirewound which nicely are available from 5-10watts, the resistor body fits the socket width and the lead gauge is heavier than most ceramic brick resistors.

Longer story short- have a 100w 1970 super lead on the bench, came in due to redplating. Upon opening, it was discovered another tech in the not tooo distant past replaced all of the multi section electrolytics, ignored every other cap, overbiased the amp, installed a 6A mains fuse, and for some reason installed 12W 1K screw mount resistors onto the screens.. The cherry ontop, wrapped 12W resistors in electrical tape so I'm going to sensibly replace these with a much safer option, atop repairing the laziness inside and eliminating the burning pvc tape smell that spooked my new customer here...

The Welwyn 7W 1k W22 series (look more period correct) or Xicon 5W 1k sand cast resistors are typical and work well.
