Dano first preamp tube shock mounting.

Post by Stevem »

For those of you who have never seen a series E model 272 Centurion here is the simple way that the small board that the 12AX7 was shock mounted.

3 long enough machine bolts, a stack of rubber wire grommets and 3 nyloc type nuts, all of about 6 bucks in parts if you wanted to do such these days.

Fender did a simpler shock mount back in the '50s.

Looks very similar to what I use on mine; an O-ring between the socket and chassis.

Note the ground straps on the sockets, which ground the tube shields.

Shock mounting the whole preamp circuit like in this Danelectro is better then just shock mounting the tube sockets.

The wires going to the tube socket still keep it pretty ridged, where as the mass of this board, the parts on it and tube float around far more freely.
