BLTAKABOSS wrote:Hey bro, I must say that the TC Electronics Nova Delay is quite the badass. i have it run in my chain and there is no doubt that it makes no diff. in my tone and i run matchless into tele or lp. it has knobs that will make your head spin and stereo options that im not setup yet to use but im telling you that if you have about 180 ebay is the right choice.

PEACE.
Thanks. Looks like a nice unit. So even though it's digital, you don't find that it compresses or otherwise effects your tone?

Also, will it do a chorus effect (like the Memroy Man, for instance)?

delay pedal

Post by BLTAKABOSS »

Yes even though it is digital i cant tell its on to the point that i sometimes just leave it on if i have the effect dialed out. there is a modulation knob that puts analogman quality chorus and a bit of something extra not to sure what it is but this pedal has blown me away. the analog/digital knob really lets you express how you want your delay to sound, and the feedback knob is just unf*ckin believable. up to almost 3 seconds in delay time if you want it.

PEACE.

Cool. Thanks for the detailed input. Now to sell a couple things and scrounge up enough dough to get a Delay ;)

I built the delay from BYOC & it is well worth using. Think it's around $80. Digital that sounds analog

What's BYOC? Do you have a link?

Mark,
BYOC = Build your own clone.

http://www.buildyourownclone.com/index.html

Another option is General Guitar Gadgets.

http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/

I have just started getting into the effects pedal building gig and have only bought from GGG so far. Great stuff. Their ITS-8 kit is killer!

The BYOC forum is very helpful in getting acquainted.

You will find the electrical fabrication tasks straight forward and easy. Finishing the enclosure isn't, at least for me, quite as simple.

Cheers,

Thanks, Dave! Cool sites. I think I'll get the A/B looper switch -- I need one of those.

I second the T.C.Electronics Nova Delay. As soon a sI got my hands on one, I replaced the DL4 on my board. What a difference in by-passed tone as well as in delay modes! The DL4 just has one advantage: its 3 pre-set footswitches. In the Nova Delay, you will find the option to cut down the number of delay pre-sets to three (or how many you need an dfind comfortable), which you can step through. Live I never use more than three different delay programs and only adjust their lengths.

The Nova Reverb also sounds killer, BTW.

I just found a used one on Ebay for 180, which seemed like a good price. Should be here later this week ;)

I'd like to pick up the Reverb, too, at some point. Have you used the Nova Reverb in your effects chain in front of the amp, or through the effects loop? I'm curious to know how well it works in front of the amp because I didnt' wire in the pre-amp IN/OUT jacks on my D'Lite.

+100 on teh BYOC, if you can solder and follow directions, BYOC has some great options. Here is sample of their ping-pong delay: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oOzocTjGQYE

Another DIY option to consider is the Rebote delay from Tonepad. I made it, digital chip with filters that make it "analog" sounding (not that I ever heard an analog delay, but anyway, it sounds nice). Simple mix-repeats-time 3 control layout, one trick pony, but a nice one.

The "be all" & "end all" delay, inna stompbox format, is without hesitation, the Eventide Timefactor. Two delays in one, astoundingly clean modulation & delay.
Strap an expression pedal to it and you can "morph" between wildly
disparate effects settings.
I got mine used in January, with the Korg expression pedal for $300.
I'll trade my Boomerang, 2 Echoplexes,Digitech PDS2000 [if need be]
just to continue playing this bad mutha!

IMHO, YMMV,

I own the Akai headrush and its really great. It doesn't suck tone at all. Its one of the few delays I have where I hear no difference when its kicked in. I also like that it has an effect only out so I can run it into a chorus and into the normal cahnnel on my fender amps and mix the delay level and have chorus only on my repeats.

I also have the DL4 which does suck tone stock but since I never use it with distortion it doesnt matter to me. The analog with mod is worth the pedal price to me. keeley lives 8 miles from me and I will get mine modded soon anyway. I got lucky with my DL4. I boiught it when it first came out and have toured sometimes 200 gigs a year with no probs.

If you don't need tap tempo the H20 has a good delay and chorus. I use it when I dont want to bring a board. Mine is the first issue and I bought it at GC 2 weeks ago for 90 bucks. The delay and chorus was about 10% louder so I emailed visual sound and they told me it was an early problem and emailed me a schematic and I replaced 2 resistors and now the volume is perfect. The chorus is analog but the delay is digital but it sounds like analog.

I had the T-rex delay but sold it because it was too expensive and just not worth it to me.

I guess im a delay junkie because I have a BIG Lloyd Dee-Layer on the way. Its 600 MS of Analog delay with an effects loop so you can add whatever effect you want only on the repeats-just like the line 6 model I like and the trick I do with the Akai,a chorus pedal and a 2 channel amp. Top it off and its only $150!
