Low Plate Classic Layout
OK On with the show..
Attached is now a low plate Classic layout modified from the 124 layout I did.. AFAIK this was 124 as it was originally manufactured in 1984 before the skyline update..
To avoid any confusion on the pot tapers I labeled them by part number.. Since the Fender (CTS) were different tapers (10%-30% and the 2-35) According to my notes the 2-35 imples 2%-taper at 10%-rotation..(You must have the standard pot at "8" on a Fender knob to egual "5-6" on this pot)
you can do your own research on the part # or discuss away!!
If you have any questions I'll try to answer them..
For those looking for the Farris, Talk To Your Daughter, Carlos Rios type tones should look into this type Low Plate Classic.. Best of Luck and once again
Hope This Helps!!

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Thanks Tony, this will help when comparing both layouts. Excellent job as usual on the layouts.

Tony - one question.
The black "blob" just beneath the Deep switch - is that just a solder blob tie point? If not, what is that?
Thanks. Again!

Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Suppose to indicate a tie point..mlp-mx6 wrote:Tony - one question.

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Nothing is wired to (or toggles to) the center contacts of the deep switch.
Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Ah OK, after comparing the schematic to the layout, I think the 270Ks should be wired to the center lugs, not the top.
Tony, thanks for posting this layout.

Bob
Thanks for the catch.. Your right the Deep switch was not wired correctly..
There were different versions of how he wired it so I went back to his hand drawn layout to make sure and wired them all like this.. See this post and Please revise if necessary.. Sorry everyone..

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
So when deep switch is "on" (switch is in upper position at front panel) it is actually off? And vice versa - when mod is off (switch in down position at front panel) there is connection between 270K through resistors and cap to ground?
Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Thanks for reminding toggles work opposite of the slider switches..Going back and forth here!!mbeldyga wrote:So when deep switch is "on" (switch is in upper position at front panel) it is actually off? How does that look?..
Thanks

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Now it looks how i think it should. I wired it same way in my build, but what i noticed wasn't boosting bass and lower mids, rather cutting a bit from highs and upper mids when engaged. Should it work that way?
I always play with jazz/rock switch in position with treble pot connected via cap to ground. Maybe it works better in other settings?

Wow Tony
Thanks heaps for all your work. I've really enjoyed looking over all your layouts

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
Tony,
In the notes you state the feedback side of the PI is 10v HIGHER than the non-feedback side. My experience with similar designs is the opposite - the DC voltage is lower on the feedback side (but the AC gain is higher). Should I try to adjust my trimmer to go the other way?
thanks,
whit

Re: Low Plate Classic Layout
I think the answer to this question is tube-specific. Not tube-type specific, but that specific tube.Tonegeek wrote:Should I try to adjust my trimmer to go the other way?
