D'lite 44 BOM?

Post by lord preset »

Hi,
Does anyone know how I could locate a BOM/parts list for the D'Lite 44? Not seeing one in the Brown Note forum. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have this one.

Also a assembly guide.

Lord are you making this amp from scratch no chassis or board?

No, I'm planning on using a donor amp - an 80's era KMD GV100D. It is an English made hybrid SS preamp/6L6GC configuration that has a solid chassis and big iron. Supposedly they got 100 watts RMS out of 2 6L6s

I have read that this amp is pretty close in design to a Music Man 65/100 watt design were they ran the voltages very high. I just got the amp yesterday and it works fine as-is so the transformers aren't blown, but I haven't taken any measurements to see if the PT actually is spec'd similarly to a MM. If it is, I will look into how Fuchs and others have used these PTs for D style amps. Worst case I will get a different transformer but I would love to use the existing one. The PT and OT are both marked 100 watts and were made by Tranilamp.

Structo - thanks so much for the docs. The one question that comes to mind is what parts are different on the 44 vs the 22?

Let me save you before you piss into the wind uphill. Let me say that I have build several high voltage Dumble style amps, matter of fact I have a HV D'lite (basically a 70w ODS, no FET) in the works now.

In the context of a HV power supply you need to first figure EXACTLY what you have if you have any intent of using that power supply scheme. ONLY those transformers will work in that power supply scheme as the OT is designed for that PT and you can't just go picking any output transformer off the shelf.

In the meantime for a straight power supply scheme, the preamp and PI topology is basically the same(tweak the nfb resistor) for the 22 and 44, so grab any Fender or Marshall 50W OT of your choice to build a 44/50 D'Lite.

This is how Andy does it.

There's a poor quality schematic floating around and it appears to be a MM knock off. Thus, you can use the iron. It has a 32vct winding which you can use for bias and relay supply, as I believe thats how Andy does it. So, strip the chassis down to just he PT and OT then and build boards to accommodate Andy's method. I normally will feed the screens with a choke and also have used a smaller separate choke feeding the preamp as well.

Another way to implement this scheme. It also has the standby on the cold side which gets the 700+ DC off the standby switch.

Thanks for all the great info. When I get back in town I'm going to tdo a tear down of the amp and measure the voltages on the PT to confirm they really do conform to MM specs.

Then I need to read up on the HV supply so I understand what you've already given me. I am sure I will be back with more questions :?

The PT tap values written on schematic don't exactly jive with the given circuit voltages. It has what looks like a low voltage tap of 90 and a hi tap value of 185. Now 185 can't be correct because it will get you only around 520V unloaded. However, 275 will get you about 775V unloaded, which will be around 725-730v loaded. So the 90 figure might just the delta between the high and low tap.

I will give you a warning that 450 volts is dangerous enough, but this scheme has well over 750 volts unloaded, which can be terribly dangerous, so beware!

Indeed, I was shocked badly many years ago by a faulty old 100 watt stack. Almost died. My respect for electricity goes beyond respect into outright paranoia. I assume all amps are trying to kill me. Even the nice ones.

22w vs 44w so you already have this solved with your donor chassis and transformers.

.Another Failsafe option is to stick a diode between the plate and cathode/Ground on tube sockets to spike/arc protect the OPT (match your loads) and sockets ..Since your screens are running @ 1/2 the plate voltage the screen resistor is not really needed but it's a good idea to put a low value 120 ohm resistor there as a fail safe, that resistor acts more like a fuse on a screen blow out..

At 700+V above gnd don't F%#k around with the amp while it's on,on the bench and take all precautions (drain caps, before you work on it double check gnds etc etc!!!) or you could die!!
