Re: john mayer's two rock??
Thanx a lot Larry,
did you also measure the primary impedance of the OT?
did you also measure the primary impedance of the OT?
Re: john mayer's two rock??
No, but I've measured the primary's resistance, which was:two tone wrote:did you also measure the primary impedance of the OT?
red (CT) - brown = 45 ohms
red (CT) - blue = 50 ohms
The primary's inductivity was 7.0H, measured w/o load at the secondary and a meter's range of 120Hz
The dimensions of the lamination stack were: 95 x 78mm, 34mm thick
And there were some numbers on a sticker on the end bells:
OT - 4 - 8 - 16
40 - 16849
166 - 0309
The dimensions of the PT's lamination stack were: 104 x 87mm, 54mm thick (high, Z-mount)
On the sticker on the end bell was written:
50W MULTITAP
40 - 16876
166 - 0307
The choke I haven't measured, but it was TwinReverb/Showman size.

Questions
So the transformers are Marvel Magnetics, same supplier to Mesa.
Interesting how they claim "they don't clone" and "don't goop", and do both
.
Boy they love weird "loops", or lack of them.

What do you mean by that? Do you mean local NFB loops which I can see in the schem?

Re: john mayer's two rock??
Not exactly. The NFB loops are clearly D*mble inspired, but what I meant was the effects loop isn't really a loop. It has a send (off the master wiper) and a return amp. No cathode follower to match impedance and so forth. It's not really a loop (as we know it). I've heard rumors that Bill Krinnard "doesn't like cathode followers". Trying to drive a solid state effect without a low input impedance would be clearly a recipe for a sucky tone IMHO.jelle wrote:FUCHSAUDIO wrote:

Re: john mayer's two rock??
I see your point and this surprised me too. With the CF send it would have demanded another tube...or they'd have to rewire the reverb return stage to use only one triode. The CF makes even the most picky effects units works like a charm.
'Trying to drive a solid state effect with a low input impedance would be clearly a recipe for a sucky tone IMHO.'
I thought the CF has a low impedance output which matches the low impedance input of the solid state effects...
OTOH I can see why some people actually like this tone bleed at the end of the signal line...

Post corrected
I meant to say "without" a low impedance/cathode follower....lol.

Re: john mayer's two rock??

Thanks!
Re: john mayer's two rock??
One half of a 12AT7 as the reverb driver and the other half as the cathode follower to the Send would have been a better solution IMO, as it is now. Shure not the 'perfect' solution, but a solution w/o an additional tube.

Larry,
Nice to have you here on this forum. I have enjoyed your posts on the marshall oriented forums and the Ampage a lot! Thanks for the schem BTW.
On the topic of the send CF...It sure leaves the designer room to come up with an updated model again ...but then again I know I keep on learning stuff and use the stuff I learned to improve my amps.

one minute you're nice, the next minute takin' a shot. Just because we use a given manufacturer, doesn't mean we copied their transformer.FUCHSAUDIO wrote:So the transformers are Marvel Magnetics, same supplier to Mesa.

He was using a string of different pedals for a while but when I saw him at the Crossroads Guitar Festival he was using a Dumble overdrive solid state preamp of some sort.
About a year ago, Tomo was trying to get John on with Eminence Speakers, but JM was insistent on his Jensens. As far as I know he's still using them unless Two Rock came up with a JM signature speaker.
John's using our 12-65 speaker in his rigs now.

Re: Questions
Didn't say you did Joe. Simply noting you guys share a supplier. You did (at one time, not sure about present) use Mesa iron in a few amps, did you not ?Joe Mlog wrote:one minute you're nice, the next minute takin' a shot.
